German Student Clinician Research Program Award Prizes


The 2007 Student Clinician Research Program in Germany was held in Düsseldorf on November 25th, 2007. Twenty-three students from Germany, Switzerland and Austria participated in the competition.

The scientific presentations were divided into two categories: Basic Science Research and Clinical Research. The winners are:

1st Prize: Ms. Julia Lautensack, University of Aachen OA PD Dr. Med. Hans G. Gräber
Award: 1.500 Euro plus trip to United States ADA Annual Session 2008 for both Lautensak and Gräber
Title of presentation: “Non-destructive Visualization of Demineralization Processes Using Synchrotron-Microtomography”

2nd Prize: Mr. Jeremias Hey - University of Halle-Wittenberg
Tutor: OA Dr. Christian Gernhardt
Award: 1.500 Euro
Title of presentation: “Drug-induced Protection vs. Parotid Gland Sparing in Radiotherapy – A Clinical Investigation”

3rd Prize: Mr. Michel Alai-Omid - University of Homburg / Saarland
Tutor: Prof. Dr. Matthias Hannig
Award: 1.000 Euro
Tile of presentation: “New Ways for Prevention and Inhibition of Enzymatic Degradation by Matrix Metalloproteinases”

The winners were announced during an awards presentation dinner by Claus-Peter Jesch, VP / General Manager, DENTSPLY DeTrey GmbH Konstanz. He congratulated the students from all of the universities who participated in this year’s program. Mr. Jesch remarked, “DENTSPLY takes great pride in the sponsorship of these student scientists. This program allows us the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of dental sciences. We are also proud of the excellent relationships we enjoy with the German Scientific Dental Society, the German Dental Association and the dental schools. Tonight we honor these men and women of science, the 2007 Student Clinicians, who as the future leaders of the dental profession will take the profession through the first half of the 21st century during their careers. We congratulate and honor them on their outstanding scholarship and accomplishments.”
