The 31st annual DENTSPLY / BDA Student Clinician Research Program was held at the Sheraton Hotel Park Lane on Friday, February 8, 2008. 280 guests representing the United Kingdom and Irish dental schools, the British Dental Association and other eminent figures from the dental profession attended the black tie event.

15 teaching schools participated in the competition, which was held at the BDA headquarters. Students presented their original research to three adjudicators: Professor Nairn Wilson, Head of School and Dean of Kings College London Dental Institute; Dr John Drummond, Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant of Dundee Dental School; and Professor Robbie McConnell, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health, Cork University Dental School.

The winners were announced during a gala black tie dinner hosted by Dr. Linda Niessen, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of DENTSPLY International, and organized by the DENTSPLY UK Professional Support Team: Kate Caple, Penny Gage and Simon Abbey.

The first prize of an all expense-paid trip to the American Dental Association Annual Session in San Antonio, Texas later this year went to Ryan Olley from Kings College London Dental Institute. Second prize of £500 went to Paul Hooi from Dublin Dental School and third prize, the adjudicators’ prize for professionalism throughout the presentation, went to Shiva Abbassi Ghadi and Emma Saliba from Bristol Dental School.
